Heartland Lions Eye Banks

Because of the generosity of eye donors, the support of hospitals and the work of Heartland Lions Eye Banks, 8 individuals receive the “Gift of Sight” each day through the miracle of eye donation and corneal transplantation.

Since 1960, the Eye Bank has connected 38,000 individuals suffering from an ocular disease, disorder or injury to the highest-quality donated corneal tissue. Tissue is retrieved from our three-state area and then processed and distributed to corneal surgeons in Missouri, Kansas and Illinois. If the cornea can’t be transplanted in our region, it is then offered to surgeons in the U.S. or around the world. More than 2,816 individuals escaped a world of blindness in 2010 with corneal tissue from the Eye Bank.

The Eye Bank encourages you to become a Partner in Donation by registering as an eye, organ and tissue donor in your state.
